Hawaii Nine-O

It became a busy, blustery day in no time.  Plans to leave at 6 pm moved to 2 pm, then to 12 pm in the blink of an eye.  Hustling quickly through the task list at home, by the time the GilGuy walked in the door we were 99% packed and ready.

Only one more task item left:  head to town together, pick up a now-repaired vehicle from the shop, grab a sandwich, then hit the road.  We would be traversing over 200 miles in our two-car trip.  Two cars would allow the GilGuy to stay with his recuperating post-surgery father, while I returned home to handle preparations for The Actor's new gig.

Over the river and through the woods we travelled to Grandfather's house.  We chose at the aforementioned stops to keep the vehicle running, since L'il Man and the DellDog were inside.  The sweltering Mississippi heat was upon us, and the temperatures were certain to overwhelm both if we were to turn off the air conditioner.

Drive, drive, drive . . . intermittent cell phone calls . . . holiday weekend traffic . . . drive . . .

It was a relief when we arrived.  We checked in on Grandpa, then drove a few more short miles to our overnight digs.  Gil would be returning to his Dad, but came along to get Keller and I settled.

Kisses, hugs, and a good-night . . . a return inside for this . . .a return inside for that . . . .

THAT?!!??

Yes, that.

The now scruffy, oil-and-dirt-covered kitten ~ the very one I had rescued from certain drowning just a few weeks prior, the most-photographed-kitten-ever-that-lived-on-my-front-porch sat staring at me, dazed and confused . . . and not harmed.

There were no words!  In utter amazement, we took the highway surfing cat into the kitchen for a compensatory beverage.

I cuddled and cared for him as he, in bewildered demeanor, felt equal gratitude to no longer be inside of (?) on top of (?) that hot, loud, roaring thing that made asphalt look like the waves of the sea beneath his must-have-been-trembling-body, in a bid to use up yet another of it's nine lives.

Hawaii Nine-O.

Nine minus two equals seven.

Egads.  I wonder what the next seven adventures are going to entail???

I love the oil smudge on his once pristine white nose.

I *was* going to bathe him . . . but by the time we got back home and settled, he'd pretty much worked all the grime off of himself. :)
