Those Converse

The purchase had been well-planned by the fourteen year old lad, intent on wearing the fashion statement of his choice.

The mother had little inkling as to just how those black Converse high-top tennis shoes would impact her life. Over and over again those shoes would prove to be a familiar and loved sight in a very short window of time.

Poignant the sight of the shoes were, in a photograph a month ago in Hollywood.

The oldest son and the youngest son: moving together in sync via very different modes of transport. The photo captured a precious awareness of a special season of boyhood, one that was sure to pass all too quickly, wherein the older boy delighted in playful antics of a boyish sort with the younger.

Not so quickly, the mother was to discover.

The oldest son, now in the roll of uncle, delightfully playing boyish games with his nephew - her grandson - over the weekend:

Steadily in step, thanks to a certain pair of black Converse high-top tennis shoes.

Okay, that's it. All my kids are getting Converse's when we're in the States.
